Three Subjects Detained After Starting Fire on Bridge in Salem, Oregon

Officers Dispatched to pursuade individuals off the piller

Salem, Oregon – November 18, 2023 – Three subjects were detained today after the fire department was called out to extinguish a fire on a bridge pillar.

At approximately 12:00 PM, the Salem Fire Department was dispatched to the Union Street Railroad Bridge following reports of a fire. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered three individuals perched on the bridge's pillar, having ignited a fire. The subjects disregarded requests to descend from the pillar.

The fire department sought assistance from the Salem Police Department. The subjects maintained their refusal to leave the pillar despite the arrival of police officers. After two and a half hours of persuasion, the subjects finally agreed to descend.

The subjects were detained and then released.
