Holiday Horror: Father Arrested for Setting Fire to Home with Children Inside on Christmas

By Jacob Wolf | Caleb Wolf Photography

Salem, Oregon - What should have been a joyous Christmas day turned to horror near Keubler Boulevard on Monday evening when a father was arrested for setting his own home on fire with four children and a nanny inside. Facing charges of attempted murder and arson, the man allegedly put his family and caregiver in grave danger on what should have been a festive holiday.

According to officials, the fire broke out around 6:30 PM. Firefighters responded to reports of smoke and flames coming from the residence. Thankfully, all four children and the nanny could escape the blaze safely.

Investigators say the wife was not home at the time of the fire. The husband, who fled the scene shortly after igniting the fire, was apprehended a few miles away and placed under arrest. He is currently facing charges of arson and attempted murder, one count for each child in the home at the time of the fire.

The motives for the husband's actions remain unclear at this time.

Fire investigators are still on the scene and continue to piece together the events leading up to the fire.

The names of the families involved are not being released at this time.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
